     Initial Design:

             My initial design for my egg drop experiment was a veggie can, sponges,rubber bands and plastic wrap. What I did was take the veggie can and cut the sponges to fit the can. I formed the sponges inside the can to fit the shape of an egg. I also used a thick sponge to cover the top of the egg. I used plastic wrap to wrap around the can dozens of times, to make a softer landing for the can. I decided to change my design because not only was it too heavy, but also the egg kept breaking, no matter the changes I did to the can.    Final design:              

             For my final design of the egg, I decided to use a smaller container instead of a can. Not only was my new structure lighter but it cushioned the egg more than my original design. I used a small Ziploc container. First, I put a layer of cotton balls surrounding the inside of the container. Than, I put small sponges in the container with a hole in the middle the sponged to hold the egg. After the egg is placed in the center. I put a round-like sponge on top of it, then covering it with a layer of cotton balls. Despite all the sponge and cotton balls, there was a small crack on the egg

                                             

   Data:

        The mass of my structure without the egg was 99.54 grams. The mass of my structure with the egg was 167.04 grams. I divided 2,000 by the mass of my structure and and multiplied by 5 because my structure cracked. My score was 100.46 points- a B.

                                                 

 

   Testing:

   Test #1: I knocked to container off my dining room table, which is 31/2   off the floor. The test was a success.

   Test #2:  I went outside and threw the container up in the air. Once again, the test was a success.

   Test #3: (Final Test) Mrs. Janik threw the container in the atrium.When it had hit the ground, it sounded like it landed softly. However, there was a small crack on the egg! Below is the final test by Mrs. Janik.

                                     

                    The entire reason we all did many different tests was to make sure that the egg survived all of the tests. If not for those tests, all of our eggs would have probably cracked or brake. I believe that my structure broke because I did not protect the top of the egg enough. I think that if I was to put more cotton balls or more sponges on top of the egg, my egg would have survived.

 

This is my egg drop container. I have used a veggie can, sponges, and plastic wrap to secure the egg. I have tested it by knocking off the table tossing it down the steps and throwing it up in the air outside. My egg has survived.
